| - As much as I dislike Charlotte's airport, the food choices there are as good as it gets. I love airports with a lot of variety, especially when I have a ridiculously long layover and need something to do. Having to walk 15 minutes between concourses is inevitable at Charlotte. In my five years of passing through, there has only been one instance where my arriving and departing flights were in the same terminal.
With all this walking, you're bound work up an tiny appetite and see something you wanna sink your teeth into. During my most recent business assignment, I decided to treat myself to some Pino Gelato. I've been here plenty of times and always get a different flavour. In the past, I've enjoyed mango, banana, passion fruit, and mixed berry, but I've never strayed from the fruity ones. I had to change it up and try the Italian butter pecan. I ask the woman behind the counter for a sample and it was just divine. Ordered a small and thanked her. I placed my gelato on the counter and stood there for a minute looking for my phone. She asked me if I was okay and I told her I had to get a picture of the gelato on display and she gave a hearty laugh. It was a cute moment.
It's kind of a surreal experience. Gelato always makes me appreciate the small things. I'm a bit much, I know, but it's true. I have fond moments of wandering the streets of Costigliole d'Asti, Piemonte, Italia, at nighttime with a cup of gelato during my internship. It's complete nostalgia for me.
Being able to just take my time, walk around a beautiful (yet extremely in convenient) airport while eating some of the sweetest, creamiest, and smoothest gelato is sublime. I know a lot of people just say it's just chain store gelato, but there's some nice memories in there for me.
