| - Sake Bomber has very good sushi and excellent sashimi. Maybe one time in five the sushi doesn't quite hit the mark for whatever reason, but even then it is good. The sashimi is invariably spot-on. The lead BT (Owen) is excellent and knowledgable on the food as well. Definitely does me justice on my beloved Absolut Kamikaze's. You have absolutely got to try their fresh wasabi, it is the best ever and destroys the paste. Prices are low to average, every once in a while I find myself a little bit surprised at the tab, but it is certainly within reason. Actually, the suprises are generally due to loading up on the booze, so I'm to blame for that aspect. They have some fairly decent happy hour specials, and that helps to cut the bill. I will say the exterior is basic, but the interior is fairly nice and authentic enough. It can get a tad noisy, especially on Friday nights since this is just under 2 miles from ASU. I don't mind this in that our kids go to ASU and to me the younger crowd's vitality is appealing. Granted, if you are looking for a quiet dining experience you might want to avoid the weekend nights. Weekday nights are usually fairly quiet.
In total, Sake Bomber is my absolute favorite for sushi and sashimi in the Phoenix area, and most certainly it's the best in Tempe. About the only downside is that it's a bit noisy on the weekends, but that is not enough to slide the "5" rating down to a "4". I guess I would add that maybe one time in five the service is slow since it can get packed quite quickly. However, the foodservers and BTs are pleasant and knowledgable about their offerings. Whatever you do, you've just got to try their fresh wasabi. It's boatloads better than the paste. Pretty sure it's a $1, but that will be the best dollar you will spend for the year. If you're the drinking type, ask for an Absolut kamikaze, goes great with the sashimi.
