  • I can't believe I'm writing this - there is a literal lightsaber store in Scottsdale. The adult version of our five-year-old selves when the movies came out. Now people legitimately own a saber and learn how to beat each other up. They don't got a website yet, but they have a Facebook page they update frequently, and it's across the street from Corleone's/Savers. My friends and I always wanted to get some of these sabers on our own for funsies, but it was cool finding a place that actually had some in person. They had a bunch of the legit brands: Ultrasabers, SaberForge, and more. You could start at the affordable tier of lights without sound, or move forward to their premium with the classic boot up sounds, flash on clash lighting, and even stuff like blaster noises. Definitely more solid than those fold out plastic ones we had as kids, and they let you check out all of them to see what you like best. It's actually awesome there's a store period, when ordering directly from a manufacturer can take months or even a year to ship out to you. As for the classes, they got a range. They have forms for a traditional martial arts instruction, choreography if you wanna learn the movie type spins and twirls, and dueling where you actually can beat the crap out of each other for fun. They have padded equipment and foam sabers too, so it's definitely kid and family friendly. But they also have several of the legit ones if you wanna try out a class and don't have one yet. I think a drop-in class is like $25 and they have memberships if you want to do stuff weekly. But if you and your friends just wanna play Jedi and Sith for a weekend, they'll teach you everything you need to know just for the night. It's every Star Wars nerds' dream come true but I think it appeals more to that. The guys running the shop are chill, so you don't feel overwhelmed or shamed if you're not a hard SW geek. Definitely a family aspect to it, and a cool option for kids who don't want to conform to karate or taekwon-do. And there's nothing stopping you from just buying your play toy for home and doing whatever you want. In a world where it's becoming exceedingly hard finding a hobby or a group, I think Saber Knights offers a solution. Plus the timing's right - you can checkout some sabers and robes before The Last Jedi hits theatres!
