| - Having lived here a few months and having the "local's perspective" now, I see I was too harsh on Vegas RTC before. I guess I just happened to get super-crowded buses at the wrong times. Certain lines, with the 109 being the biggest culprit I can think of, can be unbearably packed for most of the day, but generally the double decker buses always have more than adequate seating if you're willing to climb the stairs.
I've rode all over at all times of day on all kinds of lines and I can't think of a bus being significantly late or breaking down. They really have this thing running like clockwork, better than any other major city I've visited. Despite the general grime of Vegas, buses tend to be acceptably clean at all times too. If someone spews or poos they immediately shut the bus down, get everyone off and get a backup bus there toot sweet.
Only minor complaints. The pricing could be a *bit* better. $2 for a ride is OK but that's with no transfers whatsoever, even in the same direction. You have to pay $3 for an unlimited 2-hour pass or $5 for a 24-hour pass that doesn't let you get on the Deuce or SDX. I still think it's a little carny that those lines cost a high extra fee just to hit up tourists, but with a local pass you can still get to the Strip by taking any north/south line that takes you to Tropicana or Flamingo then going east/west along those (and fortunately those two lines run 24/7).
One thing I do appreciate is that not just disabled people but military veterans also get the 1/2 price discount on all fares here, making a monthly pass only $35. Really helps on a tight budget. Also, earlier in November they actually made a lot of lines run more frequently without upping the fares ... you never see that in California.
Only other quibble is that if you have to go across town, budget about two hours for each side of the trip ... but that's more to do with Vegas' comically long blocks and tons of traffic lights than the buses really.
