  • I contacted Hardy's Pool Care in May of 2014 as a first time homeowner (with a backyard pool & a front yard fountain) as I needed assistance in both understanding the process & maintaining the pool. I spoke with "Ken" who was happy to show up on May 21st & take a look at both. He mentioned a few items that I would need, explained the cost, & I happily purchased them. Three of the items were without incident (floater, net skimmer, & skimmer gate). In addition, I also agreed to pay an additional $5 for the weekly placement of a chlorine tablet in our pond/fountain in the front yard (it is a large cement structure that really is the front yard & a part of the house... not a small bird bath type fountain found at big box hardware stores). Also scheduled for a month later was the replacement of an old pool pump that runs the fountain (I was quoted $800 for the pump, labor, & some minor replumbing of the pvc fixtures that feed the fountain). I will get to those items in a moment. One of the first items I had a problem with was the purchase of a "conditioner" for the pool. Ken explained it would help keep chemicals from evaporating. He stated he didn't have the chemicals on him that day but would have a guy run by the next day to add it. So I agreed & paid the $40. The next day came & nobody showed with any conditioner. I waited another couple of days & still "no show." I figured perhaps they were just going to add it on the next weeks visit (as I had scheduled a weekly service). I called the day prior to remind "Ken" that the conditioner had not been added. He stated he would have his guy add it on tomorrows visit. The following day, the pool guy shows up, does some chemical tests skims the pool & leaves. I figured he may have added the conditioner when I wasn't looking. So the following week comes around & another pool guy shows up. When we question him about the worsening condition of yellow algae in the pool (it went from a few spots to growing on walls, steps, etc.), he does a quick test & determines that no chlorine is in the pool. He adds chlorine (from the stock we had purchased prior to hiring the pool service) & leaves. The next day, I receive a bill from Hardy's Pool Care with the $40 conditioner fee on it. This leaves me with a couple of questions? Why would the chlorine evaporate in a weeks' time if the conditioner was added? If the conditioner is only good for a week, why would anyone purchase it as their weekly service checks chemicals anyway? The obvious answer is the conditioner was never placed in the pool (yet I was certainly billed for it). I called Ken to make him aware of it & he said he would look into it; however, he never showed this week at all. That being said, the $5 additional fee for the chlorine tablet in front fountain was a joke. None of the pools guys so much as looked at the fountain on their way to the backyard pool. It would be laughable & indefensible for him to say somebody did for two reasons: 1) Neither I nor anyone in my family have ever seen a chlorine tablet dissolving in the fountain. 2) It has so much green algae & moss now that it is obvious that no one has done anything. This brings me to my final & most major problem with Hardy's Pool care... the new pump installation for the front yard fountain. I scheduled this appointment with him nearly a month in advance. I purposely utilized a work from home day to be there during the installation so I could be trained on it's usage. I called "Ken" a week prior to ensure the appointment was still set. Ken assured me that we were good to go, he had it on his books, & that he would see me Tuesday June 17th as planned. The only condition was that I needed to go to Hardy's website & pay for the pump & installation a couple of days prior. No problem. On Friday 13 June 2014 I went to the website & promptly paid $800. On the way to work that morning, I called "Ken" & spoke with him to ensure he had received the payment. He stated he had & that we were "still a go" for Tuesday, & that he would see me then (& I also politely inquired about the conditioner again... which he again said he would look in to). Tuesday comes, 8am, 9, 10, 11:30am nobody showed. I called "Ken" twice (2 hours apart) to find out what time they would be by for the installation & was sent to voicemail each time. Suspecting that I was being avoided, I had a relative call from another number shortly after & the phone was magically answered. As soon as he discovered who it was, he became very short & assured us that he would call us back to let us no. I waited until 4pm before attempting to call again & no answer. I would not recommend Hardy's Pool Care to anyone. Apparently spending $1000 in a month is not a good enough customer for them to at least warrant a courtesy call. I want my money back for all the services paid for which were not rendered.
