| - Be aware, it's my impression, the service department will try very hard to pressure you into a needless and expensive up-sell.
I scheduled an oil change and 30,000 mile check-up on my 2012 Ford Edge and the service advisor Bill Faucett insisted that I also needed a transmission fluid and filter change for $320. I was surprised and challenged the validity of that advise but Bill insisted that Ford recommends it at 30,000 miles.
Ford, in fact, recommends that level of service at 150,000 miles but Bill said his technician told him mine needed it now. I refused and Bill and his technician noted on my service advisory that they cautioned me and insinuated that the rest of the warranty would be in jeopardy.
I immediately took my Edge to two respected transmission shops and asked for a price to change the fluid and filters. Both times the shop owners looked at me and asked: "Why, you only have 30,000 miles?" Both shops checked the transmission fluid and said it looked pristine. I said Earnhardt's and they both had stories to tell.
So this incident reminded me that earlier this year Bill recommended that my rear shocks needed replacing. Under warranty of course so no charge to me. Okay, I figure, no expense to me but still I wondered why I never noticed a driving difference before or after the shock change-out. Are they scamming Ford Motor Company too? Well if that's the case, they certainly wouldn't hesitate to try and scam me would they?
Needless to say, I am no longer a customer of Earnhardt's. I can't trust that they will ever tell me the truth.
