| - The last couple of weeks had been painful. A pain under the left heel had left a ligament that just last year carried me to the summit of Black Mountain, and on the city streets of Chicago was derelict. A ligament that had been so full of energy was a hindrance. A sprint through life had been replaced with a painful limp :'o( After a few weeks in this condition (which included hiking), I finally came to the decision to see a Podiatrist. I turned to Yelp's podiatrist category. The reviews led me to Apache Foot & Ankle Specialist.
I took today off from work to see Dr. Lee Wittenberg (abbreviated Dr. W) in his St. Rose Parkway practice. I didn't even know he had an office here until I typed in the direct name (after putting in a duplicate listing that I won't use). This office might as well not exist considering that it is only open on Monday and Wednesday 9 to 12 pm and DOES NOT HAVE AN X-RAY MACHINE (I will repeat this later on).
I arrived in Apache Foot and Ankle Specialists at 9:45 to fill out the prerequisite paperwork for the visit. The receptionist was professional (too bad I could not say this about Dr. W, which I'll talk about soon).
The introduction to Dr. W's visit, is the receptionist seating me in a chair in back of her desk to measure my blood pressure. It was slightly high (runs on my dad's side of the family). She next led me into the patient's room.
Dr. W started out professional. He felt under my heel to diagnose the pain. I couldn't feel the pokes & mentioned it hurt when he turned it. He diagnosed it as Plantar Fasciitis. The pain is from the bottom to the ball of my left foot. The Plantar Fasciitis is one of the major supports for holding up the medical arch of the foot. The next part of a Dr. W visit with a diagnosis of Plantar Fasciitis is building an orthodic arch for the heel. Dr. W's attitude from this point forward would be the Achilles Heel toward my relationship with his practice and word of mouth as expressed in my Yelp.
A generic health problem was the Green Reaper in Dr. W continuing directly with the treatment. I suffer from the same generic health condition that caused tremors to the left side of my mother and grandmother. God rest their souls. Dr. W turned unprofessional . He asked me if I have Parkinson's Disease and I will raise my raise my right hand to Heaven that he actually said, "Do you have any brain damage?" "Did you have a stroke? " This is a moment that I felt my late mother's pain and would have embraced her with a hug if she was here (actually tearing writing this as I think over my mother's pain). The upshot is that Dr. W denied treating me until I see Neurology of Center of Nevada for a condition that I read there is no cure for.
Now the tears are being replaced by anger. Dr W's"Orthotics: Eyeglasses for your Feet," states the following : "Orthotics are made in several ways. The patient may be asked to step into a 'foam box, ' which will make an impression of their foot. There is also a computerized version, where the patient stands on a plate and a computer program identifies areas of pressure. Both of these are taken in with the patient standing. " So why didn't Dr. W have me stand up or strap my shaking left foot? Worst, there was no working x-ray machine in the office. My picture for this business listing shows that he passed on the buck to Pueblo Medical Imaging. I DID NOT TAKE OFF FROM WORK and Pay My DEDUCTABLE OUT of my POCKET To HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR X-RAYS THAT IS A CORE RESPONSIBILITY OF A FOOT DOCTOR. Did I break a bone? This is more critical than a neurotic condition passed on from my grandmother and mother.
I will give Dr. W one star (would of been zero stars) for the cortisone shot. When you suffer as much I did, the cortisone shot is a pinch. And a band aid approach!
Dr. W gave me the IMPRESSION that he was in a hurry to get to his Fort Apache Road practice. He gave me a cursory introduction to his stretching and icing instructions for Plantar Fasciitis. I will have to visit a more helpful source:YouTube, to gain an understanding of the exercises. He never said anything professional like, "Goodbye, I hope you feel better." He never informed me if I am supposed to report to work which demands a lot of walking. " I did leave with a lighter wallet paying the deductible.
Dr. Wittenberg's unprofessional attitude and failure to have the necessary equipment necessary in a podiatrist practice is the Achilles heel that prevents anything further than one star. Out of 621 reviews and countless check-ins he is the worst. The upshot is that immediately after this visit, I drove to Foot Solutions for arch supports. DeWitt was the antithesis of Dr. Wittenberg. If this does not work, I will make an appointment with a different podiatrist. I will kick my left foot through a lawn mower before visiting Apache Foot and Ankle.
