I went one evening and left thinking on how surreal it felt here. I don't know if it was the wacky cross-dresser or the button-down lady in the business suit or the guy who looked like he just escaped from prison. It was just that there was something just off. It felt like the parking lot was the place to loiter for late-nighters. And the employees not at a register, milled around together like a little roving gang of broom pushers. Except for those stocking shelves. And there were a lot of those.
Maybe it was the greenish-yellowish lights. Or, could it have been the unsettling quietness of the aisles being broken by the peal of laughter from the late-nite shoppers? All the produce seemed in place. And the store looked clean. But there was something that jangled my nerves about this place. The oddment of it was very close to shaking a Polaroid and having it come up slightly fuzzy and the colors being off just so.
I can't pin it down. The place seemed off in a disquieting way.
So much so, that I doubt I'll go back.
Not even in the daytime.
Off.
