  • On February 27th 2016, I brought my 2006 Honda Accord to Stamps for routine maintenance mainly consisting of an oil change and some changes of other fluids. The car had recently started making a squealing noise that I assumed were the brakes as based on my records they were due to be replaced. I had made the appointment for my car for February 27th at 8:00 A.M. and I had dropped off the car at Stamps the night before. On February 27th, at around 11:00 A.M., I had called to inquire about the status of my car. According to the person who answered the phone, no one had even looked at my car as of yet and estimated it would be roughly another 30 to 60 minutes before anyone would look at my car. Finally at 12:05 p.m., the manager called me and told me that the other items that needed some attention were the brake fluid and power steering fluid. During the conversation, I asked about the brakes specifically and were told that they were fine. I then mentioned to him that I am getting a funny squeal from the back left part of the car and if they could look into it as long as it was there since according to them it wasn't the brakes. Around 2:00 P.M. that day, the manager called and advised me that the car was done and that they found no problems. When I arrived at the repair shop, I asked about the squealing noise and the store manager indicated that, "They heard it too, but could not determine what was wrong with it." On my slip, there are notations referencing the problem about a "noise made when braking," and to, "follow up if noise persists - no issue found." After picking up my car, I continued to drive with that noise around about another 2 weeks (My family & I were out of town for a week, so the Accord sat in our garage.) Upon our return, the noise was growing persistently louder and as the noise grew louder, so did my concern. I was concerned that I had a bad bearing that would need replacing. Finally, out of desperation, on March 19th, I took my car to another repair shop. They diagnosed the issue in about 30 minutes. It turns out that the back brakes were in dire need of replacement and that was the cause of the squealing sound. In fact, we were basically metal on metal and had almost damaged the rotors as well. To say I am disappointed in Stamps would be an understatement. First off all, on February 27th, I had an 8:00 A.M. appointment. My car was not looked at until around 12:00 p.m. that day. Perhaps if it had been looked at earlier they wouldn't have been so rushed and would have diagnosed the problem correctly. Secondly, I had questioned whether the brakes on the car were good and the manager told me that the technician found nothing wrong. How a mechanic cannot figure out that brake pads were worn out is something I do not understand. I believe that due to lack of time, my car was "pushed" through and the repairs needed to the brakes were not completed. I have mixed feelings about if I want to return due to the safety of myself and my young son were put in jeopardy.
