| - I had been to Jake's many times in the past. My brother had a big bill for a brake job with coolant flush and he had asked them to change all the hoses with the flush since his original hoses had well over 200,000 miles. He was informed when he picked it up that they did not replace one of his hoses because it didn't need it. Well over 200,000 miles on a rubber coolant hose (I think it was a heater hose) does not need to be replaced? I could accept that if they said they just couldn't reach it due to being in a tough location. But to say "it doesn't need replacing"? If not at 200,000 miles....when? I guess when it ruptures and you're on the side of the freeway and calling Jake's for a tow? BS.
After that, I had my own vehicle in at 5:30am on a Friday, right after they opened, assuming first-come first-served. My job was a simple job to bleed the brake lines, and they insist on examining all your brakes as part of this. Ok, then I'll pay for that too. No problem. (To be clear, I've had my share of big jobs there, like A/C overhauls, front-end rebuild). At the end of the day, he called to say he could not get to it until Monday. I was there at 0-dark-thirty, right after they open the doors, first or very close to it, and they "couldn't get to it"? So I had to beg a ride home from work and get a ride back to his shop on Monday to get it. He claimed he just didn't have time to get to it. Let me translate: "Lots of other more lucrative jobs came in after you dropped yours off at 5:30, so we worked those all day and let yours sit, and we're happy to inconvenience you and keep your vehicle all weekend." This place used to be first-come first-served. Not any more and I'm not a customer any more. Most good places go bad in time.
