| - I really like the Bedford, and in the contest between the Academy and the Duke across the street, I always come here. This was one of the first pubs I was introduced to when I came to Toronto, and I can see why - this is a classy, fun, and friendly place to have a couple pints and maybe grab dinner as well. The food is really good - the fries are great as is the Mediterranean-inspired points on the menu. The beer selection is good as well, and the atmosphere is first-rate.
The only downside are the prices, especially for beer & drinks; the food is actually reasonable (esp. for the area) but it's well above $8 for a pint, which precludes this place from being one which you go to often, which is really too bad. The best time to go is with a group of friends, when you're treating yourself after a hard week. And while the place can get a little pretentious, the quality of the service generally gets over that. Plus, the bartenders actually know how to mix drinks, which is definitely something I appreciate.
One last thing: don't order the nachos. Really. Please, order anything else, anything at all. Just not the nachos. You're setting yourself up for disappointment. The burgers, the fries, the pizza, the dips & bread (oh man, so good) are fantastic and worth the price.
