  • My one and only experience at Calphalon was last summer. I signed up for one of these " Learn how to cook as a a couple" courses with my wife. Well maybe she signed us up in hopes that something magical would come out of the experience. The menu we were cooking for that evening was Steak & Lobster. The Steak was a delicious round cut Alberta Grade AAA Filet, and the Lobster came from the Atlantic. I also knew how fresh the Lobster was, as the poor guy looked me strait in the eyes for most of the night. I ended up being the wimp and had to get my wife to do the dirty work on the Lobster! We stuffed the lobster with crab and shrimp diced and breaded that we had made from scratch earlier. The steak was simply cooked to medium rare in one of their ovens at 700 degrees. It was perfect, and came out sizzling! The entire space we were given was more than enough, and the tools of the trade were far better than the ones we stock at home. Calphalon manufactures their own Pans, Knives and all other sorts of Kitchen utensils that were of good quality. During our cooking class our instructors displayed cooking techniques, and provided us with a wealth of information on different cooking styles throughout the night. We enjoyed a bottle of Creekside Cabernet - the 95 Vintage was extremely bold, and matched well with our dinner. The cost seemed to be fair - $120 for the two of us. I would have spent at least that at any half decent restaurant in the city. We ended up purchasing a gorgeous kettle in the Calphalon shop after our dinner for $70 (which we still get compliments on!). Overall we had a great experience, we learned a couple of things, ate a great meal (that we actually cooked ourselves!), and enjoyed each others company. This would be a great spot for anyone looking to learn more about different cooking styles, and techniques or a alternative date night!
