| - With so many options available for great ice cream, gelato, frozen custard, snoh, or whatever floats your boat, Baskin Robbins isn't really at the top of my list these days. Nevertheless, occasionally the mood does strike for some traditional ice cream. And while not as good as some other locally owned shops, BR usually gets the job done.
You get free samples, a flavor of the month, and many staple creations that have been sticking around ever since I was a little kid. My favorite being chocolate fudge for some odd reason.
I see BR more for individuals whose flavor tastes go beyond the more restrictive choices you'd find at a Thrifty - and there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, as many reviewers have noted, you'll find some inconsistency with scoop sizes, which is unacceptable given their price point. I've also found their ice cream to be significantly "heavier" on the stomach than most places, making me typically regret ever ordering more than a single scoop.
We've been to other locations, but at least in our experiences, variety and scoop sizes are usually acceptable at this Bell Road spot. As others have stated, it's a chain and it's ran by kids, so don't go in here expecting a life-changing experience.
Is it the best ice cream you'll find in Phoenix? Not by a long shot. But it's at least convenient.
On a side-note, they do offer specials, which are sent to me via text on a regular basis. While most are silly throwaway promos for items that I have no interest in (e.g. sandwiches, pizzas etc), a BOGO offer is usually enough to lure us there on a Sunday afternoon.
Just remember the sample etiquette, people. Try a few flavors, make a choice, and move along!
