| - My initial experience with Robert Pho was a good one. He is personable and friendly. He is also an incredibly skilled artist. However, I have recently discovered that he lied to me when I originally became his customer. I will do my best to explain in full what occurred, so that you do not make the same mistake as I did, should you choose to get your ink done here.
10 years ago, I was seeking out someone to do a coverup. I contacted Robert as I was in Las Vegas for work for a year and he came highly recommended.
I had my artist selection narrowed down to 3 potentials when Robert Pho hit me up with the following promise. He told me "the one thing that is great about getting in with me now, is when my prices go higher, you are locked in at this rate ($150 an hour) for life." I was also told that touch ups would be free for life.
Since even the best tattoos fade over time, this was a pretty awesome promise and it was the final deciding factor on me choosing to have Robert do my piece.
I did a full sleeve on my right arm through many sessions over the course of a year. I ended up spending a little over $3200 plus tips on the entire project and I have been happy with it for a very long time.
My issue started about 5 months ago when I learned that I would be going to Vegas for a work trip. The tattoo is now 10 years old. The white lines and cloud work on it are faded and need touching up. I contacted Robert by email with a picture of the piece and what I needed done. I was responded to by his assistant Michelle.
I discussed the touch up I was looking for and she found that Robert had several openings on the schedule during the time frame that I was supposed to be in town. Then came the quote at a flat rate of $1500! I was floored and instantly recalled for Michelle the promise that Robert had made a decade ago.
I felt that there must be a clear misunderstanding and I was more than willing to pay the promised rate of $150 an hour for my cover up (even though cover ups were said to be free) and of course a sizeable tip. Michelle stated that the $1500 quote was from Robert directly and was not negotiable.
I was certain that there was a misunderstanding and I requested to speak with Robert. This is where it got really frustrating. I was repeatedly promised by Michelle that Robert would reach out to me personally during the next week.
I checked back in weekly for the next 9 weeks but was mostly ignored. On one occasion, Michelle did respond, to apologize for Robert not getting back to me yet and assured me that he would do so in the next few days. He never did.
Finally, a week before my departure to Vegas, I was contacted again by Michelle (not Robert) and told that I could be put on a cancellation list for the week that I was there.
I checked in daily by phone during my stay and was told Michelle would call me back. She emailed me back one time but never took my call.
Robert still to this day has not attempted to contact me despite the fact that he promised to do so on multiple occasions through his assistant Michelle. I also sent him a message on Facebook messenger which was looked at and never responded to.
So, the position that I am put in now is that in order to get a scheduled appointment for a touch up on a 10 year old tattoo from the original artist, I will be on the hook to pay almost 50% of the total cost of my original tattoo.
Robert is an excellent artist, however if he promises you anything for the future pertaining to your ink, from my experience, I highly recommend getting it in writing.
The way it was handled was a further slap in the face. Robert promised to personally get in touch with me and then avoided me for 10 weeks. Then finally he had his assistant brush me off by saying that I would be on a cancellation list. To this day he has still not personally responded.
I have great relationships with all of my other tattoo artist and I am saddened to now have my first bad experience with a high-end artist. If you decide to go here, just be careful of any promises made and if you can, get them in writing.
