I want to hug Mama Jo. Then I want her to agree to mail me pies for every birthday and holiday. (They don't mail pies, something about the lack of preservatives and the way the pies would arrive when they DID try shipping them. Darn.)
So when I'm in Ohio I eat as many pies as possible. They have these tiny 6" pies and I get a few of them in assorted flavors (banana creme, chocolate creme) and then a full-sized pumpkin and a bumbleberry for the family. Oh man, they are just outstanding. I'm not a fan of pie crust, but this is pie crust done right. I could eat just the crust. The banana creme will make you weep, weep! I'm not usually into fruit pies, but their bumbleberry is outstanding. A few Thanksgivings ago I was put in charge of pies and chose a bumbleberry instead of the usual apple. The family was outraged. I took so much flack for that, until people ate it. (And I had to force them to try it, stubborn does not BEGIN to describe my family.) It's an amazing pie, this beautiful balance of tart and sweet all in that delectable crust.
Oh Mama Jo, please please mail me a pie. No matter what condition it's in I will eat it and love it. Even if I have to lick it off the inside of the box it comes in.
