Should have been better than it was! I had stayed at the (much cheaper) Clarendon a couple weeks prior and was looking for a more upscale version of that in Old Town for my man's birthday weekend. I am not shy about spending money but you don't get what you pay for here. The hotel was riddled with "bros" and the staff seemed more like bouncers at a club in Miami than hospitality industry workers. We were accused of trying to sneak liquor into the pool area because, planning to spend the day poolside, we asked the bartender about getting a bucket of refreshments. We are in our early 40's and well past the "sneaking drinks" stage of life. The livingroom/lounge/lobby area was really cool but we couldn't find seats to sit and enjoy the live jazz. We ended up going into the sushi place and paying $8 for a glass of Beringer Pinot Grigio and $7 for a bottled water. The creme brûlée was really good but not "foodie" caliber as expected in Scottsdale. Breakfast and Bloody Marys were also good but Snooze a few miles away on Camelback was way better. The best thing about this hotel is it's location and proximity to shops and dining. If I were to do birthday weekend all over again though, I'd take him to either Valley Ho or the Clarendon.
