  • Hadn't been to the Gem for many years, but went just a few weeks ago. It's a simple, but large (900 seats including balcony) that is a genuine piece of American history. The technical quality is very good and up-to-date. The seats are real antiques, so not as comfortable as brand new, but sitting in them is sharing history, so not a problem. Two large relief sculptures up front are stunning 30s-40s deco. It is a big, majestic room. The giant screen curtain is electric and glides into the wings-- don't see that in the local cookie-cutter mall theater. The tickets are crazy low priced, as are the concessions. There is a large, helpful staff. This is obviously a labor of love, and radiates character assembled in a better world-- like a dream palace!
