I bought a foreclosed home and did not live in the home for 6 months. The house needed renovation and I'm a dual resident from another state. I received a notice of lien at my out of state address so I called to speak with them. I explained to them the house was not lived in so there was no trash to be collected. The lady on the phone became instantly confrontational and told me its my responsibility to pay my bills. I told her I agree completely. I also told her when I use water they bill me for water used, when I use electricity they bill me for electricity used, and when I use gas they bill me for gas used. I explained that I use their service and they charge me, when I don't use their service they don't charge me. She told me its the law and I have to pay them. My bill was $88 for services not used plus $190 lien for a total of $278 for not using their service. The lady told me its the law because it get to 120 degrees here in the summer. I asked her why the temperature is relevant and she had no reply. I asked " does trash just appear in front of my house at 120 degrees?" This is very unfair and I do pay my bills. I am like everyone else i prefer to pay for a service used and not to be forced to pay for something I've never used.
