| - We recently spent a week at the Mandarin Oriental, and the other reviews were spot on: It is an oasis in the middle of the noise and commotion of the strip. The entry to the hotel is hidden from the street so when you pull up to the front door, you've already entered a tranquil area complete with shoots of bamboo decorating the entryway.
The staff was extremely helpful and pleasant and made every effort to make sure we were happy. The benefits of a non-smoking hotel that lacks both a casino and shopping hits home when you walk through some of the other resorts like The Bellagio. It was one of the only hotels that was so quiet we didn't need to sleep with earplugs; no banging doors, no commotion in the hallways. Definitely a great place to unwind.
The pool, although not as large as other resorts', was the same: sitting on the eighth floor we mainly only heard the noise of the pool water and New Age music. Great chaise lounges and relaxing atmosphere. The cabanas looked top notch - we didn't rent them, though.
As others mentioned, they do charge for overnight parking, so if you want to save $20 and valet tip money, park in the Aria self parking lot. It is only a few minutes' walk to the Mandarin from there. The bellman let us know that they have a complimentary car that will take you anywhere within a two mile radius, so if you don't want to walk and don't want to take a cab, that is a good free option. The caveat being they won't come pick you up. We rented a car for the week so we didn't use their car, but we thought it was a nice perk.
Our chief complaint was the frosted glass in the bathroom. There were sliding wood doors that would hide some of the bathroom (in the cityscape room), but from the hallway you could see right into the water closet. They described it as giving a spa-like feel...okay, that's fine for the general bathroom area, but give either a solid or opaque door to the water closet.
Turn down service came at around 8 pm each night and set out a bowl of water with rose petals as well as rose petals on the soaking tub. Another nice touch.
We would definitely stay here again in the future. It is convenient to the strip while being an escape from the strip.
One word of caution: We stayed at the hotel in mid-August 2013. There is construction taking place in front of The Monte Carlo and New York, New York, which are adjacent to the Mandarin (and our room). Construction started at 5:30 am every weekday morning. This was, of course, out of the Mandarin's control, but I wanted to put that out there. If you are able to get a room on the other side of the hotel you may be better off.
