BAIT & SWITCH WARNING...
Today we received the Money Mailer filled with coupons offering all sorts of deals. The one from STEAM KING Carpet & Air Duct Cleaning caught my eye. First let me say our carpets were just cleaned 3 months ago when we moved in. Our dog recently passed away and in anticipation of possibly getting another dog we wanted to remove any dog scents so the new pet doesn't mark. Also let it be said the were no accidents by our dog. The house just had the normal everyday usage of 2 senior adults. The carpet was in no way soiled or dirty. Most of the traffic patterns were on the tile.
I called the phone number on the coupon. The coupon was for $49.75 for 5 rooms. It was truly a great deal so we decided to take advantage of the offer. But offers that are too good to be true are often not true. When I spoke to the person on the phone, I made it PERFECTLY CLEAR that I will not pay a penny more than the $49.75 advertised. He went into other services offered and said as long as I don't do any other services the price will be $49.75 and not a penny more. The service was scheduled.
Steam King arrived. The 2 man crew was prompt, clean, well mannered and polite. They did a walk through and that was the beginning of the end. We have to do the traffic patterns (at an extra charge), there may be dog urine here and there, we have to treat this and that, etc. All at an extra charge. Oh, in the fine print, there is a "service charge to all areas" but no price mentioned. That turned out to be $15 more. This was never mentioned when I called to set up the appointment. Granted it was on the coupon in relatively fine print and I didn't see it and the person on the phone didn't mention it.
Long story short, I told the crew if they can't do the job for $49.75 and not a penny more, they should leave. They leave but kept "working the deal" and the numbers. No matter what they did the numbers were more than $49.75. Finally I just handed them their clip board and told them to leave.
Beware of businesses like this. They think once they are in the door you are hooked.
You don't have to put up with this type of behavior. I didn't.
