All hail Lawrenceville-they pretty much have it all now. And Upper Lawrenceville at that! After a while at The Dog Stop for both grooming and boarding, I gave Urban Dog a try since it's more convenient, and I had met the owner before. Truth be told, I mostly switched because (possibly as an anomaly) my dog had a bad-very bad- case of digestive problems after being boarded for a long holiday. I'm guessing there were a lot of dogs at the facility and he possibly got sick. To the tune of over $600 in vet bills. Thus began the search for something else.
I also have a dog that is a bit angry when it comes to being groomed. My standard schnauzer unfortunately requires regular trips to the groomer, to his dismay, and I've been turned down from 3 people in Pittsburgh already. He misses the lady I had in Texas that he surprisingly loved and has shown me how unappreciative he is of groomers in Pittsburgh. I gave the groomer at Urban Dog a try and he came out groomed! I was pretty happy with the cut, but given the circumstances I'm not very picky. I think she may have forgotten to comb the beard though. I combed through it and cut the mats out myself when I got home. He may have just been to mean to access the beard, but it's no big deal. I'll return.
The boarding is competitively priced at $30/day including day care. Occasionally you will find coupons on the facebook page or in a local ad. The facility is laid out nicely and decorated very "urban." There is not an outdoor area attached to the facility itself, but the employees utilize the grass area nearby with the dogs on a leash for potty time. I was told that small dogs have a little area inside that they can use if need be. The hours are great (6:30 am-7:30 pm weekdays). I really really appreciate that.
I was told that there are approximately 20 dogs/day for day care. I'm guessing quite a few less for boarding. The owner accommodated my request for a packet of supplement to be put on his food and he returned with no out of the ordinary poops (yay!)
I'd highly recommend giving it a try. They just opened and are building a clientele while staying small and manageable. Parking is abundant and the location is easily accessible.
