Home to distressed travelers of US Airways, Comfort Inn takes a miserable situation and somehow manages to make it worse. From surly shuttle drivers to overly brusque front desk workers, a stay here is a practice in charitable forgiving - all too apropos for the holiday season but...I've already spent it all on visits with the family.
Arriving at 11pm at night, the only redeeming moment my whole stay was the super fast check in with an airline voucher. I suspect the majority of their business is from stranded travelers staying on the airline's dime as no rational person would choose to stay at this Bates Motel. They've got the process down pat, staying on the phone while tossing a key at you and snatching a voucher from your hands in return.
The room is meh. Clean is relative but I didn't feel as I would pick up any communicable diseases. The walls are paper thin. You can hear the person next to you turn in bed and there is virtually no sound proofing from the very active and very loud freeway outside. White noise app to the rescue!
The bed is surprisingly comfortable with a choice of nice pillows encased in rough sheets. There's no way to regulate the temperature - it's either freezing cold or stifling hot from the window unit. There's also no way to quiet the extremely loud and empty mini fridge.
Beware as this location is about 20 minutes from the airport and the shuttle driver in the morning, a badly aging lady of about 50 with poor eyesight, drives like she doesn't have a valid license - swerving dangerously with a lead foot. I arrived five minutes early for the shuttle intending to grab a bottle of water from the continental breakfast on the way out. I was sternly asked if I was taking the shuttle and then told if I didn't get on it right that second I wouldn't be getting a ride even though I was early. What a way to speak to a guest. We left five minutes early with the shuttle driver and the front desk agent discussing and deliberately choosing to leave another guest behind who has also scheduled the shuttle. How do we know this? They had the discussion in front of us.
At least my cancelled flight wasn't the worse thing that happened to me. I'm on to you US Airways.
