  • Had lunch at Liliana's today during Restaurant Week. That's when restaurants are supposed to show their stuff so you'll come back again and pay full price. Nope. Not gonna happen. I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans a couple years ago. New Orleans is known for its fine food (and plentiful drink). This place has no business calling its food New Orleans or Cajun cuisine. Fig and Brie bruschetta - barely toasted doughy bread topped with brie and cooked figs in sugary syrup. It was so sweet that you couldn't even taste the brie. Jambalaya with mushy rice and bratwurst or ring sausage for the andouille. Beignets for dessert. These were NOT beignets. Beignets are warm and they melt in your mouth. These were doughnuts topped with a lot of powdered sugar. I'm amazed that as you walk in the door, they display a long list of "Best of Madison 2017" awards. Clearly the voters enjoy a very Americanized version of Cajun food.
