| - I think Dr. Kell's is best for women that are expecting, not women that are just getting annual exams and birth control. I went to him since being a teenager (I'm 25 now), and it just wasn't great. He can be schmoozy and jokey, and maybe some people consider that friendliness, but I am a nervous person at any doctor so I don't love it. I studied biology and know how to read primary medical literature, and I don't think he loved that. I would come in with questions about BC related to some study I had read, and I think he found that tedious to deal with. He is good at explaining what he is doing during exams, and I appreciated that.
The one experience that really changed my mind about him was during an annual exam when I informed him that I had stopped taking my BC pills because they were making me feel not myself. Instead of understanding where I was coming from and listening to me, he began interrogating me about my decision, asking if I knew the risk of getting pregnant (hello, duh, yes I do), and just generally acted very condescending. I thought this was really odd because I know many other women that also felt bad on the pill and would look into switching types; it's very common. I understand that he is doctor and he doesn't want people being irresponsible, but he didn't even let me explain myself or the fact that I was still open to other BC before he started scolding me. After that visit I really dreaded coming to him in case he didn't like something else that I had to say, and I didn't like feeling that I couldn't be completely honest with my doctor.
