| - This was one of the nicest looking hotels we have stayed at, with a very pleasant atmosphere. I loved the little tropical area in the casino, it smelled fresh and enticing - just lacking some benches to stay and enjoy the scenery.
On check-in I was informed I had been "upgraded", but to a Queen room (I booked a King) and insisted that they provide me with if not the room I booked at least the bed I booked. We were upgraded again to a "Tower King" room, which was a nice bonus. Our room was beautiful, large, spacious with an incredible bathroom - very clean and well organized, with plenty of room for us to spread out with our things. The bathroom even had a vanity area for my wife to get ready in the mornings, complete with comfortable bench stool.
The pool is amazing, not huge, but with lots of recessed areas for sitting, tons of lounge chairs, and amazing palm trees and other tropical plants and vegetation. The waterfall area in the center of the pool is really cool, and was one of the best parts. There were warm and cold areas of the pool so anyone could be comfortable for long periods, and direct pool side service of all your favourite beverages (but for a very hefty price).
The layout of the hotel and casino is quite efficient, it wasn't an exceptionally long walk to anywhere in particular - rooms could be located and gotten to easily from the elevators, lots of different elevator banks for different floors, and the casino seemed a bit smaller than many others with easy walkways to other attractions and services.
There were only a few things that detracted from our overall experience. First, the A/C isn't exceedingly powerful, and the thermostat is right beneath it - so keeping the room at a consistantly cool termperature is impossible, there is a huge cold spot close to the A/C (in the far corner of hte room) and everything else is lukewarm. This is a particular problem for my wife and I, since I generally need cooler temperatures, and she prefers warmer. With the A/C on her side of the bed that makes us both grumpy. Generally I resolve this problem by asking for a Fan for the room. When I called down for one, I was told that I could buy one at the gift shop - this is the first hotel I've stayed at that hasn't been able to provide such a simple service. When I tried for the flip side and asked for an extra blanket for my wife instead of cooling myself down, I was told that could also be purchased in the gift shop.
Long story short - don't rely on their customer service and effort to make your stay more comfortable.
Second, our room was cleaned very late in the day - which while I can understand that they have a lot to do, could be very inconvenient. When I say late in the day, I'm talking like 4 or 5pm. One day we had come back to the room before heading out for dinner, a couple was checking in to the room next door to us. Their keys wouldn't work and they ended up having to get housekeeping to let them in. Our room still hadn't been cleaned, but we could see housekeeping carts just a few rooms away so we got our things and went out. When we returned, the couple who had been checking in was on the phone with someone complaining that their (brand new checked in to) room hadn't been cleaned, and the second room they had been shown their keys didn't work again and so they needed someone to come help them again. Our room still hadn't been cleaned and no housekeeping was visible, so we called and were told that our room had been marked as "done" - but they would send someone up to clean it. This appears to be a regular problem.
