| - I popped into this location when I needed hamster food and didn't quite feel like driving across town to PetSmart or PJ's. I won't make the same mistake again.
First of all, I got a very good impression walking into the store. Nice displays at the front and very organized shelves. When I got to the small pets section, I was incredibly disappointed. I don't see the point in selling aisles worth of dog and cat food and having one teeny little area dedicated to small pets. One would be surprised at how much money I spend on my furry little hammy friend. When I got to the very very back of the store where the small pet things were kept I was appalled at the prices. Everything was at least $1-2 or more higher than at other pet stores. The selection was very limited and again, everything was highly priced !
I enjoy having selection and usually that allows me to choose the cheapest option if I don't want to spend a fortune on my little furry hammy friend. But here, it was all high priced and limited selection.
When I got to the back of the store, I came to the conclusion that they were running a dog workshop of some kind IN the store at that time as there were cute little puppies and their owners throughout the middle and side aisle. While I understand its a pet store, I would have appreciated a sign on the door saying 'please be advised: class in session' or something. If I'd wanted to browse the dog or cat food sections (I do have other pets), I would have been directly in the way of this class that was going on, and the store isn't that big. And if I had an issue with dogs and just wanted to get cat food or small pet food? I would have had a conniption (I'm not freaked out by dogs but I could only imagine how someone who is would have reacted). Furthermore, there's a big parking lot out back and a nice grassy area that they could have used for that.
Lastly, when I came up to check out, one of the owners (I can only assume) was cuddling with his pig behind the checkout on the ground while another person cashed me out. Seriously? You're cuddling with a pig on the ground in the middle of a business?
I will only shop at this location if absolutely necessary in future. It's convenient to where I live but I'll trek the 10 minutes across town to get to PetSmart, where the staff is much friendlier, the selection is significantly better, and where my furry little friend isn't neglected because she's a hamster and not a dog!
