I've got to be more timely with my reviews. For the last two years, I've made ShinBay THE place to go for my birthday dinner. Both times I chose the 5-course tasting menu and was in complete heaven. While the tasting menu is the Chef's choice, you can tell the server what you don't want to eat.
Each course is the perfect blend of sauces and fish. The accompaniments are delicate and not overpowering. I have eaten fish that I didn't know could be so tasty raw. The only item on the menu that's not my favorite is the Wagyu beef and that's because of the high fat content. The chawanmushi dessert is a delightful ending to a fabulous meal.
The restaurant is expensive, but in my book, worth every penny. The atmosphere is an understated zen-like experience. When you go there, savor every bite slowly. Taste the delicate combination of flavor that dances in your mouth. Wonder in the Chef's ability to create tasteful masterpieces for your palate. Over the top review? Maybe. But, like most of the reviews here, you'll agree with me once you've been there.
Oh, and the first time I was there for my birthday? I received a card signed by the staff and a red rose upon exit. Nice touch!
