I was experiencing a leak underground under the landscaping in my front area. Tempe said it wasn't their meter so I called these guys to come help me understand what it was. The challenge is my water main runs under 8 feet of dirt then under a dyed, stamped concrete patio out front. These guys immediately went to 'it's the water main' and gave me a bid of $2522 to dig it all up, cutting the concrete to replace the entire main. I would then have to get the concrete fixed some kinda way, if at all possible.
A second plumber told me something pretty similar.
I decided to ask my yard maintenance guy, who also has a landscaping company, what he though might be going on and how to fix it. A Latino man. He said he would dig up all the dirt, see what's leaking and soaking the earth there..and then see what needs to be done. He found a water line for an old drip irrigation system no longer in use was leaking at the compression fitting. He replaced that, made sure all the leaking had stopped, replaced the earth, gravel and stones landscaping for 800 bucks.
Occam's Razor.
I am curious if they would have found this leak before destroying my stamped dyed concrete...and stopped there or sold me an entirely new water main....smh
