  • We stumbled upon this small hole-in-the-wall and had some of the best gelato around. In fact, it is some of the best I've ever tasted! The staff were so very friendly and kind and smiling and gave us a very welcoming feeling. Gelato is like ice cream, except ice cream has a higher fat content because there is more cream and less milk and conversely, gelato has more milk and less cream, so is lower in fat. Gail came out and handed us tasters of everything... I loved the chocolate, the sweet cream (which is the base for all), the black cherry was TDF! (to die for!) I finally chose two scoops (very generous sized!!) of the orange and the grapefruit. The grapefruit was my favorite! Such a truly sweet and powerful flavor made it the top of the list! I also liked the lemon, but it was pretty zesty! I might like it mixed in a coke-float to enhance the natural citrus in the coca cola. Mom complained that there was no coffee to drink with her ice cream, but was lulled into happiness with her coffee gelato. Doc came out and explained all about his products. They are gluten free, are non-GMO, have no artificial coloring, nor eggs, nor gluten -- just all-natural deliciousness! The flavorings were so true to real, because they ARE real! Doc Relies on lemons, oranges, grapefruits, strawberries, cherries and other fruit from friend's and neighbor's backyard fruit trees --something people in the Phoenix area are lucky to have in abundance! Flavors on the day we were there included: Orange Sorbet, Sweet Cream and Passion Fruit Gelato, Banana Gelato, Marscapone Gelato, Lemon Sorbet, Coconut Passion fruit Mango Sorbet, Coffee Gelato, Chocolate Sorbet, Sweet Cream and Sour Cherry Gelato, Strawberry Guava Sorbet, and finally the grapefruits - Grapefruit Mint Sorbet, and Grapefruit Campari Sorbet.- Doc's was commercial only until more recently, and his gelatos and sorbets can be found in the better local establishments. Doc's also teams up with the legendary Alice Cooper for charity, and the shop has some of the autographed posters on the walls. We will definitely be back!!
