| - I arrived at the Toronto Hyatt Regency in the worst mood ever. A freak March snowstorm had led to our flight being cancelled - twice - and when my mom and I finally squeezed onto standby after eight hours in the airport, we arrived in slushy, cold Toronto eight hours later than scheduled and without any of our luggage. I'm not sure how they managed to do it, but the awesome check-in staff completely turned my mood around. They gave us directions to the nearest drugstore so we could replace toiletries, and Tim, the fantastic concierge, dug through a lost and found box to find a charger that would work for my cell phone. Maria, the wonderful bartender downstairs, did a terrific job supplying us with food and drinks. When our luggage finally did arrive 24 hours later, Tim remembered us and sent our bags right up to our room.
Even without the great impression the staff made, this was a terrific hotel. I was attending for a convention but couldn't bring myself to pay for the Intercontinental; the Hyatt was much more reasonable and was in a great location both for work and for exploring the city at night. I love a hotel with a Starbucks under the same roof, even though this one is particularly busy on weekdays. We noticed a few signs outside the elevator about a strict noise policy - true enough. We never heard a peep from our neighbors. The beds were soooooo comfortable, and I just loved the bedding and all the modern decor.
I see a lot of complaints in prior reviews about being charged for wifi. If you hate paying for wifi like I do, I have two tips:
1. Sit in the downstairs bar and you can pick up the free wifi signal from Starbucks, even after hours. Of course, this does not work in your room, but the downstairs bar is really pleasant and the drinks are top notch.
2. Sign up for Hyatt Gold Passport at the front desk and they will comp your wifi for the duration of your stay.
Long story short, I was really concerned about negative reviews on this hotel until I got here and realized how great it actually was. I would stay here again without a second thought!
