  • I hadn't stayed here in a while. It used to be a mainstay when I first moved here more than a quarter of century ago but now there are better places for around the same cost. My family and I ended up here this past weekend as a result of a Priceline. Instead of bidding I took a leap of faith on one of their blind offerings for a 4 Star resort. For starters, I no longer regard the SPR as 4 Star. It's more like a 3.5 at best. It's old, a bit tired looking and in need of a facelift and perhaps an image lift. I will say that I was VERY pleased with the fact that the front desk upgraded us to a 2 level casita or villa in lieu of a single room with two beds. Had it not been for this upgrade I suppose my rating would have only been 3 stars. The villa was very nice and clean. We didn't have any time to use any of the property amenities like the pool or work out room due to our tight schedule. Overall this was a pleasing enough experience although it ended up costing just under $100 for the night which is quite high for the peak of summer. Priceline has instituted a $23 a night hotel fee which adds a lot to a $59 a night room plus tax and Priceline's usual booking fee.
