  • I have seen two doctors at Carolina Digestive health. I don't know where to begin? I have had several problems in the past with my health. I know I have IBS. But I have also had pancreas problems and some liver tests coming back abnormal in the past. I did spend a lot of time in the hospital, with feeding tubes, etc. Before that I was struggling to find a diagnosis because all tests came back clear but everything got out of hand over a two year period. It took over a year to recover. I started coming back to CDH because those same attack symptoms are happening more often again. My quality of life is low at the moment. The first doctor I saw with CDH was Dr. Fowler in 2010. I changed to him from another practice that wasn't helping me and he helped me for a long time. He actually was taking care of me during my long hospital stay. After my pancreas issues settled a bit he treated my IBS, which the other doctors were treating me for previously. When I started having pancreas pain again, he kept changing the IBS treatment. I can manage the symptoms of that with over the counter stuff. What I can't manage and want treatment for is the upper right quadrant pain that can last for days at a time and are very debilitating. I don't have to eat or drink for days and it just persists. IBS from what doctors have told me, usually settles fairly quickly and starts again when you eat. But I will have Nausea/vomiting, pain that radiates to my back and it's on and off whether I eat or not that can last for days at a time. This is how it started years before. I would have these "attacks" that last for days. They cause intense pain and fatigue but tests came back clear. I've been on almost every RX medication for IBS. They help with the IBS but not the upper right quadrant pain and not the spasms. I waited a while and changed doctors in 2016. I changed to Dr. Deal knowing that he would repeat all the same tests. Knowing that all those tests would come back clear. But I had hope that after that he would try to help me manage the other symptoms that I know aren't IBS. But he didn't. He repeated those tests and he is adamant that it's IBS as well. I've done all the diet changes. I've even lost weight. He still says I'm overweight. Which okay I am, but I even told him I gained 10lbs in the last week and I haven't changed anything. He didn't acknowledge it. He makes it seem like I'm sitting at home eating Little Debbie cakes and bacon all day when I'm not. Everyone else in my household is healthy and a healthy weight with no problems because we eat healthy and balanced. I actually do watch what I eat. I've experience so much hair loss and nutrition issues because no one is willing to think outside the IBS box. Everything he has suggested has been done over the last seven years of struggling with this. Why does it have to get ugly and life threatening again before they look at other options? I don't ever want another feeding tube again or to say in the hospital that long or at all. I need help managing it. I've asked to be tested several times for SOD, but no one will test me for it. Why not? I have to live in this body and the IBS treatments are not helping my other symptoms. Again, I can manage the IBS part on my own. I am asking for someone to listen to me. So right now I have to agree with everyone here. They just want the co-pay. My last appointment was today. Another one of my doctors recently ordered a cat scan to check on surgical healing. They advised me to follow up with my GI doctor (Dr. Deal)because there were a few things on there that didn't show on my previous scans (usually have two a year). I called CDH and they had Dr. Deal review the scans to see if I needed to come in. They called me back, said we couldn't discuss it over the phone--got me an appointment ASAP and told me I'd be on a cancellation list too. So I went in today for him to tell me the results are normal for what I have. I should try the South beach diet, give up dairy for a while. All the same things I have already done several times for the last 7 years with Dr. Fowler. This was a pointless appointment that was a waste of a 90 mile round trip. He didn't listen to a word I said again. He isn't helping me. He said he would order a test and see me again in a few weeks. But I didn't stop at the desk on my way out. He didn't even examine me and I have a ton of abdominal distention. Basically he told me to do the South Beach diet then make two right turns out of the office. When I made it to my car, I was in tears because I'm tired of living this way and my family is tired of seeing me live this way. It's so debilitating not just for me but for them too. I won't be returning. If you have a problem that is easy to handle like heartburn then you shouldn't have a problem. But if there is something you've been struggling with for years... you may want to find a practice more qualified or more willing to listen to you.
