| - Castle is a board game cafe. This is how it works, (if you've been to or know about Snakes and Lattes, and by now I'm sure you have, just skip to the second paragraph) you pay by the hour- $2.50 per person an hour at your table and you play as many boardgames as you like off their library of games.
Castle is spacious, with two rooms, couches, tables, regular dinner tables, snacks and beverages. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the service is fine.
When I compare Castle with S&Ls, (and of course I have to) there are indeed differences. Castle charges per hour vs. a flat once-per-visit fee, while there are also fewer games to choose from here. They do stack-up on the popular games (Ticket to Ride, Munchkin, King of Tokyo, CAH, Settlers, etc.) but overall there are around 1/3 less of a selection. The biggest difference is how you'll be able to get a seat as soon as you arrive at Castle. That's right, you don't wait for 2 hours until a spot opens up, you pretty much get a table when you arrive. I'd suggest groups of 4 or less for a quick take-down.
Overall, I like Castle. The per hour price structure is less appealing, but its a smarter business model for a board game cafe. I respect that. It is what it is, you get what you want and you can't really complain unless you want a fantastic slice of dessert (which are not found here, but stale alternatives are). But hey, you're here to play and not to eat so it's fine right? Checkmate!
