Our experience was exactly the same as Patti R. except we were on our way to the evening show at Gammage on Sunday 11/27/16. We have always made dining at ZTejas a tradition before or after a show because it has always been so predictably good.
We arrived about 4:20 to an almost empty restaurant and had to wait to order, to get our drinks, to get cornbread and then finally our meals at about 5:10 from a waitress who was overwhelmed. During this time that we were waiting the entire restaurant had filled up and all of the tables around us had ordered, eaten and completed their dining experience before we even received our entrees. When we questioned the waitress she stated that she would check on our meals. This was all fine....until the manager came over. She proceeded to tell us that it was our fault that the food took so long because of the combination of items we ordered. What?? Really?? An appetizer, a salad, a burger (which was cold) and tacos? Then she said that she'd buy us a dessert but she knew that we were in a hurry and probably wouldn't want it anyway. She reluctantly took the cold burger off the check with an eye roll and the removed the happy hour appetizer for the inconvenience. We didn't need to have anything complimentary but a sincere apology from this woman who had obviously understaffed would have been sufficient.
This will be our last trip to Tempe ZTejas since there are too many other good choices for us in Tempe. It's time for a new tradition!
