I love the fact we have a mid-sized outdoor venue in Charlotte, especially so close to downtown. I'd say my first few experiences could be 4 stars+, but the one last night was lackluster regarding the venue.
Paul Simon! Wow, what a show. Although there was no way for me to easily get my disabled mother to the grass area. They have a lift, that looks better for wheelchairs than someone standing. But it was out of the way and then you had to walk all the way back just to find that there were still stairs. She isn't that bad though, so we were able to make it work.
We get up to the grass area to find it completely packed. Like oversold by a large margin. I get that you probably have a capacity at what standing room would be on that grass, but it wasn't that type of crowd. Everybody had chairs and came super early to grab their spots. There just wasn't room for her to sit and she couldn't stand for the whole show. We found a nice little spot behind the soundboard with a rail that she could lean on but security told her she had to move. Eventually, I texted some friends and asked to buy their seats from them.
I would assume it was the venue's sound system. There was something pretty bad wrong first song or 2. I don't know if everyone else noticed though. I've been on tours with bands before so I know my stuff, but seemed pretty obvious.
All that, but still a great show. I surely be back. Will make some phone calls and get better advice prior about their handicapped policy next time.
