| - Lord, where do I start?
* First, it doesn't make any difference when you show up, you will wait, and wait, and wait to be seen.
* They are using 1920's technology. Film X-Rays, paper records. They don't even turn on a computer in the exam/procedure rooms.
* The first time I went there for an exam/cleaning, the dentist, who appeared to be somewhere around 102 years old, didn't even bother to do a thorough exam or cancer screening. I'll get to that later.
After the exam, they noted one tooth needed a crown an noted NOTHING else. Everything else was good. I had the crown installed. I always knew it was a shoddy job because there was a gap between the edge of the crown and my tooth; they didn't fit together as they should. Food, etc. could possibly get in there and cause an infection.
I recently crunched on a Brach's butterscotch candy and it destroyed the side of the crown. I swear, it was made out of plastic from China. I have a crown in my mouth that you can't even see the line where the tooth meets the crown and it is 30 years old and in perfect condition!
I went to a different Dentist (Arizona Dental Design), Dr. Todd Sick and got a complete exam. He pointed out a number of issues that were never even addressed by Southwest Dental Destroyers.
1) I have a number of silver fillings in my molars and those molars have typical cracks from the fillings expanding and contracting. They need crowns if I don't want the cracks to split to the root.
2) He immediately commented on the terrible fit of the crown I got from Southwest and even took a great photo of it and showed it to me. This is NOT something I could have done on my own. The edge of the crown is jagged and doesn't even touch the seat on the tooth. Just a horrible job!
3) He did a thorough exam including a cancer screening.
4) Their cleaning took about an hour and included ultrasonic, scraping, polishing and even a flouride treatment. Southwest cleaning took what seemed like 20 minutes and they were nowhere near as thorough.
5) The technology at AZ Dental Design is state-of-the art. They do a full head X-ray, all digital, in one pass. The device goes around your head.
6) They take hi-res photographs of all your problem areas so they can show them to you and you know they aren't trying to scam you.
Finally, my wife had her own set of issues with Southwest, including having to get a root canal retreated two or three times. In that process they destroyed a crown that THEY put on but never gave her the root canal she should have had to begin with! So, they sell her a crown, it gets infected and causes pain then tell her she needs a root canal.
Avoid them!
