| - This course is a well maintained and well situated golf course which is challenging, yet forgiving as well. The course offers spectacular views and unbelievable sites backed up against the Superstition Mountains.
I have no complaints with the course, however the way in which guests were treated when I was there will make me think twice about spending money at this once prestigious, private club, and most recently bankrupt public course.
I was in a hurry the day I played this course and showed up nicely dressed in summer golf attire, however my shirt was un-tucked (I was going to tuck it in ironically after I entered the clubhouse). The gentlemen at the front who greeted me and took my bag rather arrogantly informed me that I was not to use my cell phone and must have my shirt tucked in. I said no problem, as I am an avid golfer with respect for the game, it's rules, and each golf course's own rules. I walked over to a bench (not in plain site of the front of the clubhouse), un-buckled my belt, and tucked my shirt in. I was immediately scolded for doing so and informed that they had a locker room in which to "undress", by the same rule mongering gentlemen who so arrogantly greeted me at the front. I told him I didn't think it was out of line to tuck my shirt in as he made it a point to do so before I went through the clubhouse. He informed me that it was also out of line to have changed into my golf shoes at my vehicle. I shook my head in disbelief as he scoffed at my supposed "classless" actions, and then ignored whatever demeaning sentence came out of his mouth following my immediate departure from the area. I was angry, to say the least.
I have played nice courses all over the country, have visited and played numerous private clubs, and have never been treated with such disrespect as I was that day. There is a reason this course had to go semi-private and has just gone through bankruptcy. I was warned that the course is a beautiful course but the club had gone down hill, and I assume the people who told me this information may have been referring to the staff, in part.
It's a beautiful course and looks like it has rebounded well from it's defunct state, however don't waste your money with this snooty, uppity wannabe country club with all of the other course options in the valley.
