| - We absolutely adored Zarkana! I could be slightly biased as we got the tickets for free. We booked our hotel directly through New York-New York and they had a promotion running for two free show tickets. Our first choice was Zumanity, but the dates they had available didn't work for us, so we picked Zarkana. What we paid for two nights at the hotel was less than what the people sitting next to us paid for two tickets to the show, so I'd definitely recommend looking into it and seeing if a similar promotion exists if you're looking to go to one of the Cirque shows. On top of the already awesome free show tickets, we were given a free upgrade by one of the ushers the night of the show. We ended up in the middle of the arena, in the 2nd row from the stage. We had such a great view!
This was only my 2nd Cirque show. My first show was the Beatles Love last year. Of the two, I'm not sure which one I liked better, since there were different things I liked about both of them. The Beatles one had awesome music (of course) and amazing costumes. It really displayed the essence of the Beatles for me. I liked Zarkana because of some of the circus tricks they did and I liked the overall "idea" of the abandoned circus. I have to agree with Christy T's review that the clowns were sorta creepy and weird at some parts. After the 3rd to 4th time of them taking over the stage, I stopped laughing and was thinking, come on lets get on with it. Other than that though, I can't think of anything I disliked.
Some have mentioned the plot of the story in their reviews. Just know that there's not some greater meaning or purpose for the show. You're not going to get life's great moral dilemmas answered at the end of the show. You're just going to see a circus act for about an hour and a half. If you want a bigger story or for everything to be working together in a cohesive story line, this isn't it. This really is just like going to a circus, seeing all of the acts and going home. That being said, I still loved it and thought it was brilliant.
