| - I stayed in Phoenix for two weeks last month at multiple budget hotels in the Phoenix airport area. This was not the worst, but given the brand Days Inn, it was the worst for its price range and brand reputation in budget hotels. Here's why:
Rude staff: an unfriendly Eastern European migrant greeted us upon our arrival. When I requested the handicapped room because I wanted to ensure the tubs would meet my needs, I was abruptly cut off by the clerk saying "You're not disabled. What's wrong with you?" A whole lot of none of your business -- I've never had that asked, even when I'm not limping badly to the desk.
Room cleanliness: the handicap room was "ok". It only had one dead cockroach beside the bed upon check-in. The other three rooms I moved around to had multiple living or dead cockroaches, bed bugs, or horrendous TV reception. I had to call maintenance for two of the rooms having issues with drainage/leakage, and although he was helpful, I should not have to call maintenance every time I check into a room.
Breakfast: I couldn't eat anything. They only had toast, OJ/AJ, cereal w/ milk, yogurt, and a muffin. I just drank the OJ because I can't stand these crummy and non-nutritious "Breakfast" foods.
WIFI: as a network engineer, I noticed they severely capped the WiFi speed, even when you're the only person using it. This could easily be configured better by a competent QOS network associate. Good luck watching a YouTube above 120p quality on their WiFi.
Beds: horribly hard, at least the 4 rooms I had on the first floor. Supposedly the 2nd floor had "new" beds, but I was unable to see for myself since they don't have an ELEVATOR.
In all, I'd recommend you stay elsewhere, but definitely not within a couple miles south of Days Inn on Van Buren. The only good thing about Days Inn vs. that area is that there are not active drug dealers / prostitutes in plain site on the property. Instead they are on the other side of the road or down a few hundred feet...
