| - Purely out of convenience, this was my first stop when I started looking for engagement rings. They frame themselves as 'no pressure,' but my experience was the opposite. Named my price range, yet kept being shown combinations that exceeded what I could afford. Had no intentions to leave with anything that day, but was pressured into a noncommittal commitment - they would set the stone on the ring with no obligation if I didn't like it. This of course required signing up for their credit card, which I understood to be a preapproval, not opening an account. I was wrong. The "bring it in every 6 months" 'perk' seemed a thinly veiled way of them selling more services to me.
After getting home and poking around a bit, I decided to check out a local, family owned store - my experience at Jared just left me feeling icky. There was no personal touch, it felt very much like what it is - a corporate mall experience. In the meantime I had a fantastic experience at another store, and found a much better ring/stone in terms of what I was looking for. To Jared's credit, there was little resistance when I came back to say I didn't want their ring.
