As others have said, the concept is great. Kudos to those who have put together and executed thus operation. That said, the food is disappointing. Three of us went for lunch there recently. All of us left less than impressed.
First the good:
1. The whole concept of the restaurant is wonderful! Giving folks a second chance and giving them meaningful work experience is truly something that we all should strive to do.
2. Our server was very friendly.
3. The macaroni and cheese was excellent.
Now for the less than good:
1. While he was quite friendly, our server was also very over-worked. It took forever for him to take our order.
2. None of us was overly impressed with the food. One person had the meat loaf and she said it was dry. Another had a chicken sandwich and the bread that it was on was seared, but came to the table quite cold.
3. I had the veggie plate which, for $12, came with four veggies and a piece of cornbread. I expected for that price the portions to be substantial. They were not. If anything, they each were a bit on the small side. The black eyed peas and cabbage that I had were simply OK- nothing special about them at all. I could not eat the collards. They were way too salty. As mentioned before, the macaroni and cheese was quite good. But that really was the only high point of the dishes that we all had.
I really was wanting to give this restaurant and excellent review, but I am afraid I cannot.
