I used to frequent this park/greenway all the time because at one time I worked on one side of it and lived on the other side.
The main trail runs from Independence Blvd to Sardis Road but there are several offshoot trails along the way linking you with neighborhoods and other parks. The trail also links to the Campbell Creek Greenway which until recently, I thought was part of the McAlpine Creek Greenway but alas, there is a sign telling you differently.
The McAlpine Greenway Park is also used for cross country races and there are also a few soccer fields.
In the middle of the park is a lake which is used for fishing. Behind that lake is another swamp/lake-like thing that is off limits. I never realized this was so big until I started walking a trail that I've never been on today.
The greenway is great for walkers, runners, and bicyclists alike! People are courteous here and the trail is wide enough for people to pass. The only thing I miss about this park is way back when people used to greet you as you passed them which is rare these days. But that I attribute to a growing Charlotte and the newbies not knowing the customs around here. :)
