| - Who doesn't love a brewery with a restaurant in it, right? We stopped here as a "must do" while in Pittsburgh. Bottom line, it was okay. Alcohol selections are the bomb - As far as the food I think it's more hype than substance. Review gets 3 stars - one for concept, two for beer selection, three for some bright spots in the food experience.
ATMOSPHERE: Very "Fat Heads" centric, obviously. There are tons and tons of Fat Head beer marketing campaigns, past and present - very fun to look at. That said, the noise level is WAY over the top, the high ceilings only amplifying an already too noisy dining area. Don't go here if you are looking to talk with your date / friend / partners in crime... we could not hear each other at all, and resorted to mostly hand signals.
FOOD: MEH... I was totally ready for blow-your-mind goodness based on other reviews. Maybe it was an off night for the cook, or maybe alcohol dulls tasting capabilities (sorry fellow yelpers), but for our money, what we got was dry, boring, and relatively tasteless. Our entrees, such as they were:
1) Wayne Sandwich - the kielbasa sausage was truly a nice variation from traditional sandwiches, and the sausage itself was nicely flavored. Outside that, it lacked any other flavor (where's the sauce, folks???), and was something I felt I could have put together at home. PRO - it's a huge sandwich.... so huge that our server recommended we split it (thank you for that!)
2) Fat Heads Fingers - Had to order this app for the kids (NO KIDS MENU PEOPLE - BEWARE if you have children). These were okay, but not anything special - the breading was virtually unseasoned, the ends of the fingers so well done they were almost inedible. I found myself thinking that they SHOULD be a kids menu item, because adults should know better than to pay for this level of blandness. PRO - the sauce which came with the fingers rocked... if the cook put that level of passion into the fingers themselves, it would have been 5 stars instead of 1.
SERVICE: Below Average. Our server had some ideas she was willing to share while we ordered, but then we had a hard time getting her attention after that. Someone else brought our food to us, and we'd have had at least another drink more each but she never returned to take the order (or to ask how our meal was).
VALUE: Meh. The prices are okay, but I expected far better quality for my money based on other reviews.
In short, go as a novelty, or if you're looking to drink good beer in a bar that happens to serve food. If you are looking to go purely on the food alone, you'll likely end up disappointed.
