| - We selected this hotel for all of the typical perks of staying at an Embassy Suites; big room, hot breakfast included, the manager's reception and delightful customer service. The exterior of the place reminded me of an older Las Vegas venue. The parking for the hotel wraps around the building none of which is covered. Moreover, this ES charges $10 per night for parking. For what?
The interior of this ES has the often found atrium feature with a small maze of paths and bridges that cross the nice water features found in the common area. It is very nice and cool relative to the hot and dry ride from out of town.
The room is spacious and clean with an oddly placed second sink area in the bedroom. Surprisingly it was well received by the ladies I traveled with. There is a wet bar with a small refrigerator that was convenient. Two TV's and ceiling fans were nice. We reserved a room with a pool view that was nicely appointed with a small balcony. Pool noise was not an issue during our stay.
The AC in the room, particularly above the wet bar, was very noisy however. Had we stayed any longer I would have asked for another room. It did keep the room cool during the day but the drone overnight(s) gets annoying to say the least. The water pressure in the shower seemed a little weak, and the hot water never really got up to temperature. The toilet seemed like it could barely convey the tp and such. It certainly had us worried of an overflow!
No free Wi-Fi, that's only for "members." Give me a break.
All the hot breakfast items were behind the counter and served via cafeteria style. Problem with that is if one wanted an extra piece of bacon or sausage, one has to wait in sometimes a very long line just to get that one item. Not a fan of this style. Cold cereals and breads are found in the common sitting area. Problem with those was that quite often products were not resupplied leaving empty dispensing cases. When they were resupplied, instead of choice like English muffins, bagels and bread for toast, it was all bread for toast. What good is having the cream cheese without a bagel to put it on?
Overall, it seemed that the breakfast service was understaffed and those who were working seemed unhappy to be there. Also, by leaving things unstocked people walk away. You get the feeling that they want it that way. Interestingly, after the breakfast period ended at 9am, staff levels increased until the place was picked up, then management sat down for some breakfast of their own. Very poor form.
The Manager's Reception was fine. The snacks consisted of stick carrots, broccoli florets, ranch dressing, hummus and freshly made popcorn. The drinks are not served via the bar but rather a small opening in the above mentioned breakfast serving area. Not a feeling of welcoming. But heed this warning; watch out for Pablo, the wannabe drink police at the Omaha bar. If you approach the bar with a drink in hand he will ask you where you got it from. Do not answer any of his questions, even though he does it with a condescending laugh. He'll gladly explain that if you have a beer in your room that you are not to consume it outside of your room. What? It may be true from a "letter of the law" standpoint, but again it was an unnecessary stressor on my mate and in very poor form. Loss of sales due to this young fellow that night. Maybe he'll learn someday.
The pool area is somewhat large and the pool was warm and reasonably clean (leaves from the large tree are always going to be an issue.) There is quite a bit of decay in the hardscape around the pool that will require a vast resurfacing. The days we were there it was quiet and hardly used. It was nice to actually have a "deep end" for an adult to jump into.
Unfortunately, overall there were too many misses for me to really recommend this ES and certainly not a feeling of hospitality. Only once was I greeted by the front desk staff. Simply indifference I suppose. The other ES in Scottsdale is better than this place, less the large common space that the atrium takes up.
