  • I have had several rescue pets, and in the past, I've not had a situation that allowed for me to arrange for home euthanasia (all emergency cases where euthanasia wasn't a certain decision). My 12 1/2-year-old greyhound Nike has been having some health decline over the past few months, but it was a slow decline. She took a sudden, downward turn on a Friday at 7 pm and was getting worse throughout the night. I called A Gentle Farewell at 8 am Saturday morning and received a call back in about 15 minutes. I was told there may be a vet available at 1:30 pm, and if not then, by 5:30 pm. I told her I thought we could hold on until 1:30, but 5:30 would be too late and we'd have to go to our regular vet. She said she was going to confirm availability and call right back - and she did. Not only that, she arranged for another vet to come by at 10:00 am. We greatly appreciated this, as Nike was really starting to have respiratory distress and was clearly very uncomfortable. Dr. Anne Soinski called when leaving her prior appointment and let us know when she estimated she'd be arriving. She was just the sweetest, kindest, most caring person you could ask for during such a difficult time. It was clear she very much cared about our girl and getting her comfortable as quickly as possible, and worked hard to make sure she was managing everything in a way that made us comfortable. I hope I can be so fortunate as to have a little time to plan for my other dogs in the future and can schedule Dr. Soinski to be with us when needed. She is a true gem, and if all the vets are this caring, then A Gentle Farewell is an all around godsend. Thank you so much for caring about us and our girl - Anita
