| - Yes, yes, yes. The title of "best buffet" in Vegas will always be hotly debated, but considering atmosphere, price, and food quality/variety, I think The Buffet at the Wynn wins. The main seating area is airy, bright, and gorgeous with colorful oversized topiaries. The dessert area is equally fun and appealing. Apparently there was a chocolate fountain that I missed.
The line was somewhat substantial. There's a line to pay, followed by a line to be seated by the hostesses, all in all taking us about 30 minutes. You'd think it'd be perfect for large groups, and in some ways it is, but a group 8+ will cost you at least 18% automatic gratuity and you can't be seated until everyone has paid. We ended up splitting up into multiple smaller groups, and they very kindly seated us near one another. Their Monday night dinner buffet was around $42, tip not included, and the "endless pour" about $19. That's steep, but for a two-hour dinner and good service, you can get your money's worth. It is more expensive on Fri/Sat.
The food itself is incredible! Every time I would go through the line, I'd promise myself I was going to walk the whole line before filling up my plate...but I couldn't resist. It took me about 3 visits just to work my way down from one end to the other. Each station was very hot and fresh; very little looked like it had been out under a warming light for too long. Some of my highlights:
Peking duck buns - made to order, don't miss these! They're the perfect mix of savory on a squishy little bun and topped with scallions and sauce...mmmm.
Dim sum, including the pork buns - WOW. Fatty deliciousness.
Mac and cheese - I had seconds, but we do it better in Texas.
Seafood orechietti - I enjoyed this dish. Creamy and came with in-shell mussels.
Mini creme brulee - excellent.
Gelato - served up on a rotating display! I think I had the salted caramel.
Latkes - long line. I didn't end up trying them.
We also did the Bacchanal at Caesar's, and I thought this was a better value in a more whimsical setting with better dishes.
