My first experience at Avonworth Community Park was over 10 years ago. Our church had a celebration after vacation bible school week and used this facility. We had the option of swimming, going on trails, basketball, crafts and even kayaking. i always remembered those times as a kid whenever i rode by on Camp Horne Rd.
I havent been here since then, but we decided to stop by this past weekend for swimming. Their pool offers both a slide and a diving board so we chose here. To our surprise, we found out after waiting in line that the pool was free labor day which was exciting. I cannot comment on the snack bar but the pool itself is nice. It's hard to find pools with a diving board in Pittsburgh so that is a plus.
This park also has facilities that you can rent. There is an outdoor (covered) pavilion that was actually having a celebration that day. There is also The Mayernik Center, which is the log cabin looking structure that greets you at the park entrance and its also. its of course indoor and seems as if it can hold more people. Both of these options would work great for a reception, baby shower or grad party.
The park itself also has baseball fields, a wooden playground, nature trails & basketball court. It looks like the creek that we used to go canoeing on has dried up completely.
I'm surprised this park has no reviews but im glad to be the first to review it. It will be our choice for a public pool next summer and we may even look into the log cabin as a wedding venue.
