  • Velveteen Rabbit gets 5 stars for great cocktails, 3 stars for atmosphere, and negative 6 stars for service, earning them a 2-star rating. Cocktails: Great and diverse. This is the reason to come here. Atmosphere: Great furnishings, nice decor. Unfortunately, it's all wasted thanks to the lack of shades on the front window, which allows the blinding light from the tattoo place across the street to flood the room. Sitting at the end of the bar facing the window, the bartender was nothing but a silhouette. Why would you have a nice dark room, and then put a spotlight facing people in it? The light is only blinding from a few places, but is irritating from almost everywhere in the place. Service: Despite it not being busy, it took Blondie the Bartender 10 minutes to finish socializing with people at the other end of the bar to finally come over to us, and she served the people who had come in 5 minutes AFTER us first. No awareness at all. We had planned on sampling some cocktails, but I was so turned off by the needless wait that I ordered a beer (incorrectly thinking it would come quickly), which sat empty in front of me for 20 minutes before she came back and asked if we wanted another round. So instead of spending $70+ dollars, we left after 1 drink. The sad thing is that VR is walking distance from our house, so we might have been frequent customers. Next time I'll just go the Atomic or Huntridge -- at least someone will serve me there.
