| - This event was a bit different than usual. It would have been nice if the manager could have introduced herself to the group and the "agenda" for the tasting menu.
Buckets of Beer and wine were available for the group upon arrival. They started promptly at 6pm and came out quick with their new appetizers. The servers were nice and introduced the items as they served them to our communal table.
We got to try their new apps:
Flatbreads
Steak - medium well cooked steak. I like mine more pink, but didn't make it taste dry at all - being a on a flat bread
Chicken Alfredo - nice and creamy, chicken got a little bit of a kick
Calamari
Not too crispy, not grease at all.
Fried Grouper
The tempura batter is nicely done, fish was still moist, yet cooked well and flaky. Sometimes fish comes out very dry. This one wasn't. Bravo!
Warm Brussel Sprout Cesar Salad
This one was new to me. Interesting, bitter, yet cesar dressing gave it a nice flavor, if you are into Brussel Sprouts. I am, but I was a little iffy on this new item. I went to the mardi gras hickory tavern event and they had balsamic glaze brussel sprouts there...THOSE WERE DELICIOUS. perhaps that can be made into a salad?
Seared Ahi Tuna
That one was my fave. The tuna was lightly seared and the rub on it paired very well with the soy sauce.
Shrimp Boil
Also a nice addition. They use the big shrimp / prawns, so you got lots of shrimp meat to enjoy. The corn and potatoes were seasoned nicely and the sausage was good as well.
After all the tasting apps came out, the servers came around and said that we can start a tab if we wanted to order anything else - which was a surprise to me. I would have like to have know what the game plan for the night was. The manager came to us individually to get some feedback, but there was no overall announcement.
The food was great, so that would be a 4, I only gave it a 3 star because there was overall intro and I was there on time. Nikki gave us a quick run-through that it will be communal, which is good, you get to talk and pick at all the featured items, but at the other events that I've attended there was usually a little bit more of an agenda from the manager that would talk to the group etc.
Also parking is a little sparse in this strip mall. there are a lot of other restaurants and shops you gotta compete with for parking. Especially during dinner / happy hour time.
