  • I was a little surprised that Le Place D'Armes Hotel was so reasonably priced - but after staying there, I may have a better understanding. The hotel has the décor that I love, the makings of a lodge in the middle of a big city. Leather, exposed brick, wood floors, fireplaces - it just exudes comfort. I stayed in a Junior Suite with Balcony. There wasn't a great view from the balcony - a few of the neighboring buildings and a rundown parking lot, but it's still nice to have your morning tea outside with your feet up. The room was great. A love seat and arm chair, a side table with two chairs, a large TV console / armoire, and a king bed with very nice linens. There were a few issues in the bathroom. On first inspection, it looked great; there was a huge soaking tub with jets, a modern vanity, and a shower with rain-shower head. But, there was a beam running right through the center of the room, which I almost hit my head on a few times. Now I am tall - 6'6" - however I don't feel that I should have to duck to avoid clonking myself. Also, I was too tall to standard under the rain shower head. The biggest issue in the bathroom was that the toilet had issues flushing. You had to hold down the button for 10 - 20 seconds in order to get everything down. As I had a suite, my traveling companions and I would spend time in my room. Twice during the visit, I went in and saw other people's business in the toilet, since they did what most normally do: Close the lid, flush the toilet, wash their hands, and leave. Gross issue one. Gross issue two was that 2 old room service trays sat outside a room (right near the elevator) for over 24 hours. There was half eaten food just sitting out. I don't know how this happens at budget hotel, let alone a supposed 4 star hotel. That is just a gross (pun intended) lack of training by management and care by the staff. I'd hate to know how many guests walked past that, and how many of the staff just ignored it. All in all the hotel was a disappointment. I really wanted to like it since the rooms were great and I loved the décor, however issues like the toilet and the room service tray leaves a bad taste in my mouth and makes me wonder what else they're skimping on.
